Levi Felix
Levi
Felix, a 2006 graduate of Psychology and Music from the University
of California Santa Barbara, can either be found perusing golden
gate park in San Francisco, emailing behind his computer, or volunteering
at any and every music festival possible. As a student at UCSB,
Levi was extremely active in his local community. Whether he was
teaching lessons to his fifth grade Hebrew class on Wednesdays
and Sundays, playing drums at a local venue with a variety of bands
on Thursday or Saturday evenings, or planning community festivals,
Levi was always thinking about his next move. During his final
year at UCSB, Levi planned The Darfur Freedom Festival, which drew
over 800 students to an awareness concert about the genocide in
the Sudan. As the year progressed, he helped build a grass roots
sustainability movement with best friend Jake Lehman, which culminated
in Chilla Vista: a full on community-wide sustainable music, art,
film, food, and interactive festival that brought over 2,500 students,
faculty, and family together to enjoy healthy and local living.
Now residing in “the city,” Felix works for the Forest
Foundation trying to figure out what the question, “How do
you want to make the world a better place,” really means.
Struggling to live sustainably and as environmentally as he can
in this digital world, he can’t help but eat sushi 8 days
a week and will one day own his own free-range earth minded sushi
bar.
Keirsten Hammett
Keirsten
Hammet, 23 year old spoon collector and James Brown aficionado,
hails from sunny Burbank, California. After graduating from UCSB
in June 2006 with a double major in Sociology and Law and Society,
she packer her bags and moved to Barcelona, Spain where she is
currently teaching English, eating tapas, and making people smile
on the metro. While at UCSB Hammett became extremely interested
in human rights and social change, particularly in terms of international
relations, globalization and the wealth gap- plans of graduate
school are on the radar. When she's not pretending to be french,
you will probably find her traveling and learning about new cultures,
eating nutella, or wearing ridiculous sunglasses! Keirsten absolutely
adores children- particularly their curiosity and appreciation
of the small and simple things in life that we all forget to pay
attention to. Her love of dancing, singing, cooking, reading, and
being active is contagious- so watch out. She feels extremely fortunate
to have the opportunity to be a part of this inspiring and dynamic
project, hoping to captivate the young ones we encounter on our
journey across the country. What a ride we're in for...Thats what
she said!
Matt Harnack
California
Native, Matt Harnack developed a love for nature during his
time in Scouting, where he learned the importance of environmental
stewardship. He graduated in 2004 from UC Santa Barbara with
a degree in Film and Media Studies. As an undergraduate he
was devoutly involvement with the Reel Loud Film Festival -
a diverse festival that joins 16mm silent films with live musical
accompaniment. Currently, Matt works as the Senior Graphic
Artist for the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, a department
at UCSB that promotes faculty research and teaching throughout
the arts and humanities. In 2006 Matt had the opportunity to
edit a feature length documentary called The Shape of Water,
directed by Professor Kum-Kum Bhavnani and narrated by Susan
Sarandon. During the Moishe Moblie journey to Bonnaroo Matt
will capture the adventure on digital video and post live updates
of our progress through the website.
Yaakov Lehman
Yaakov
Lehman is a heady heebcat hailing out of the Sonoran Desert of
the southwestern United States. When not philosophizing about the
transcendental auditory aesthetics of the Grateful Dead, sojourning
across scores of socially constructed geopolitical boundaries,
and mimicking the behavioral patterns of an assortment of prehistoric
beasts, Lehman pursues copious forms of sensory data, thereupon
attempting to integrate these electrical and chemical neurological
signals into a coherent form of cerebral consciousness. Yaakov
is torah observant Jew who among many things, enjoys learning Talmud,
davening (praying), and ecstatically celebrating the holy segment
of weekly time-fabric that is Shabbat. He current resides on an
an English Isle, where he will soon complete a Masters of Science
in Global History at the London School of Economics; he is also
in his fourth year of collegiate study of Mandarin Chinese. Lehman
is the founder of DAJUS- Diversity Awareness Justice Understanding
and Sustainability, an organization committed to "changing
the definition of cool" through reclaiming mediums of mass
communications and promoting conscious lifestyles. Regarding the
fleshy fruits of angiospermic flora, Yaakov would like to remind
everyone that while it may seem that the peel contains seeds within,
it is truly the seeds which contain the peels-
of eternity.
Joe Madden
Joe
Madden is a generally stoked 23 year old who currently resides
in sunny southern California. When Joe is not busy peddling rainforest-root-extract
infused drinks or driving other's fancy cars valet style, he
can be found climbing mountains on a typical outdoor adventure,
softly serenading someone with a smooth mandolin riff, or cooking
a gourmet Italian meal (That’s a One spicy meat ball!).
Joe loves to learn; and for this reason he has joined forces with a number of
other positive individuals to drive across the country learning, leading by example,
and creating long lasting personal bonds. Specifically, Joe hopes to add volumes
to his repertoire of low environmentally impacting behaviors and to encourage
others to do the same.
Molly Prentiss
Molly
Prentiss was born and raised on a commune in Santa Cruz, California.
With lots of room to run around, places to hide, and fruit to steal
from the local farms, Molly turned into a healthy and happy little
hippie child with fierce ambition and a lot of hope. After graduating
from UCSB with a shiny degree in Global Studies and Italian, Molly
packed a big black suitcase and put on a black beret and moved to
the bowels of Brooklyn, New York to satiate her craving for culture
and commotion. She just had her twenty third birthday party, which
might mean she is technically an adult. She refuses to believe this,
however, and continues to divide her time evenly between making art
and trying to change the world, neither of which constitutes as a
career. She enjoys hammocks, books, frocks, banter, farmers markets,
and felt tipped pens. And vans that run on veggies, packed with all
her friends.
Aaron Small
Decent funk guitar player, better drummer, organic gardener, mud
builder, conversation interrupter, lazy short story writer, aspiring
transatlantic comedian, peacebuilder, original member of Fight Club,
avid swimmer, Jewish, 24, acting local, thinking global. Suggestions:
Ride a bike. Drive less. Start drum circles, especially when not
permitted. You CAN grow your own food. Eat less meat. You don't
have to go to college right after high school. Have an open mind..it
makes life a lot easier. Live in an other country, learn another
language. 95% of what people tell you is absolutely wrong. Challenge
the notion to put change in motion.
My goals for Chillaroo are multifaceted. I'm most excited about
leading workshops in permaculture and organic gardening, a new interest
of mine, in hopes of connecting to others and sharing newly learned
wisdom. I want to help spread fun and joy around the country, touching
people and inviting others to join the circle of community that
is the Moishe Mobile. I want to hear others' ideas for social change,
and develop those ideas with them. And I can't forget to mention
the fun and friendship this journey will provide everyone involved.
Oh, and a chance to get a lecture on sustainability from Levi? Unbeatable.
Bonnaroo: hear me roar.
I'm involved with trip because hey, I believe in the power of small
acts of community...That small changes can tip and actually create
a better, more efficient world. It all happens one step at a time,
one moment and one connection at a time. I also completed a 10 week
permaculture course in Israel and really want to be in America.
They burritos here are intolerable. Something with the Mexican food
not really being Mexican. So, what's a community builder / teacher
/ eco freako / former employee of the Forest Foundation to do when
he discovers that the Moishe Mobile is really going to happen?
Workshops: Tai Chi and Chi Kong exercises; Turning Waste into Soil;
Worms will Eat your Garbage; Drum Circle Superstars
Katiyana Williams
Katiyana
was raised on a commune by a group of hippies who loved the earth.
In the late 1980’s kati’s parents and their friends,
decided to purchase a piece of property in Sebastopol, CA and create
a sustainable, organic community. All the houses are powered by
solar, and the guest house is full size authentic tepee. It was
there on “La Tierra” that she learned to respect the
land through rituals, ceremonies and celebrations of life. At a
young age Katiyana found her passion for sustainability, and learned
to surround herself with kind loving people. Her goal is to learn
more and share her knowledge about sustainable communities, local,
organic farming, and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
She hopes to continue the path her parents took and work towards
a better future for our children.
